Next month we’re part of the final British Wildlife Festival which runs from 2nd-4th March.  We seem to be playing on Saturday, dunno if we’re in the Brudenell Social Club or Royal Park Cellars.  Facebook event here if you’re into that sorta thing.

here’s a catchup on what’s been going on. The other week we were surprised and moved to receive Radio Free Midwich’s Zellaby Awards Album of the Year.  The award was presented in a star studded gala presentation at lunchtime in the Victoria Hotel.   Reviewing the album earlier this year RFM wrote: “…it is almost comical to me how perfectly it ensures that I get my groove on. Pretty much every musical element I dig is there, distilled and combined.  One finger piano?  Check.  Expansively tangerine wob-wob synths?  Check.  Red-hot tropical guitar?  Check … Imagine Phil and Mel soundtracking the adventures of an interstellar Buddha, preaching the eternal truths to bewildered alien races on Chris Foss style space-arks…” Thanks again Mr Midwich!

New setup Infinite Limits  are a Europe based operation for underground and experimental music, and Tedium House is the US based gaff of former Bananafish proprieter Seymour Glass. This is great news as Ashtray’s been a bit starved of US distribution as of late; it means our US friends can get this record without having to pay whacking overseas postage costs.

and unrecorded 60s London psych duo and to all sounds which have been
sucked into the air and are gone forever.
This release has another UK psych duo (the 90s-00s one, I mean) in the
latest stage of their immersion in the synths and sequencers “cosmos” which
has edged into recent Ashtray Navigations releases, plus quite a few new
moves which should give an indication of future directions. Piled up guitar
structures, cascading rhythms and the first recorded appearance of drummer
Mr Seth Cooke who has beknighted recent Ashtray live gigs with his
majesterial presence. Yep it’s a heavy one. Again.

RIP Sir Jimmy, inspiration for a great Dogliveroil gig back in the day.  Mel was in Leeds town centre to capture the scene. Gold coffin complete with holy relics of cigar and This Is Your Life books.

“Acte Vide is an open-ended duo project. It consists of a series of improvised sessions that happen spontaneously and at intermittent periods, and involve mainly piano and laptop, but extend to voice, percussion, and any found object in sight.
Acte Vide is also a constant circle of reactivity between two sound sources, two personalities, and two lives. We tend to move around a lot and have often spent long periods of time separated by considerable geographical distance. Our sessions are intimate and concentrated, and they are treated and documented as one-off performances, usually relying on very basic home recording set-ups, with virtually no editing.”
